Defensive Line coach
Varsity Head Coach Keith Holden is a graduate of Half Moon Bay High School (1992). He played on the Cougar Championship teams of 1990 and 1991, playing both offensive and defensive line. He attended CSM where he played for the Bulldogs and then transferred to Whittier College in southern California where he played offensive line. At Whittier, he earned his degree in Sociology. He later earned his teaching credential and master's degree from National University. He returned to Half Moon Bay High School several years ago as a Special Education teacher and football coach. He and his wife Meredith have a daughter, Addison, and a son, Paxton.
Willie Hillyard graduated from HMBHS in 2006. He was the starting center his junior and senior years. Willie was named All Conference and All County first team as a senior when the Cougars won the PAL and Central Coast Section Championship in 2005/2006. He is a John Francis Award winner. Willie played center for two years at the College of San Mateo before transferring to and graduating from the University of Santa Barbara with a degree in Sociology in 2010. Willie has coached at HMBHS for six years. He was Head Coach of the 2012 HMBHS J.V. football team (8-2).

Coach D. returns for his 29th year with Cougar Football and has been fortunate enough to coach many Cougars who have returned to the program as coaches themselves. Dias has coached with Jack Coolidge and Neal McNevin on several Cougar Championship teams: ’90, ’91, ’92 & ’93; with CCS appearances from 1989 to 1994. Dias was also part of the championship seasons of 2005 (CCS Champions) and 2011 with Coaches Matt Ballard and Keith Holden as well as being part of the 2015 CCS championship with coaches Keith Holden and Willie Hillyard. Prior to his return to Cougar Hill in 2004 after a 6 year hiatus, Coach Dias was at Archbishop Riordan H.S. from 1998 to 2003 were they won a WCAL championship in 2000 and were CCS Division IV finalists. He is a graduate of Augustana College, Rock Island Illinois and is a Vietnam Veteran. Coach D. has lived on The Coastside for over 40 years.

Coach Breen Hofmann graduated from HMBHS in 1985. He was a three sport athlete playing football, wrestling and baseball. By his senior year in football he was named MVP, First Team All-League, All County and All Bay Area.
After high school, Breen continued playing football at the College of San Mateo and baseball at Skyline. For his accomplishments at HMBHS he was inducted into the HMBHS Hall of Fame in 2015.
Breen has been very active in the Coastside community, coaching youth soccer, baseball and football. He has been former president of Coastside Pop Warner football for the past six years. In 2010 he coached the Coastside Cougars Jr. PeeWee Popwarner team to a Northwest Championship and the went on to win the Best of the West Bowl game. Because of his extensive work with Coastside youth, Breen was awarded the 2014 Perry Yonamine Unity Award by the San Francisco 49ers.
Breen and his wife Emma live in Half Moon Bay with sons Chase currently a junior at HMBHS and Tristan currently a 8th grader at Cunha. They own and operate the Lazy H Ranch.

Coach Martin has lived on the coastside for 30 years with his wife Carolyn while raising his daughter Maeve and son Kellen. Robert was a volunteer coach for Coastside Pop Warner before taking a varsity coaching position with Barrett and Mike Krieger at Mills High School for two years. At Mills, Martin helped the Vikings win a league championship while assisting with the offensive and defensive lines, and special teams. After a two-year hiatus to watch son Kellen compete on the HMBHS Varsity Team and win a CCS Championship, Robert returns to HMBHS as a coach on the Varsity team. Coming off a CCS Championship in 2015, Robert is looking forward to his 10th year at HMB High School coaching football.
BRIAN VON ALMEN
Defensive Back Coach
Coach Von Almen played J.V. and varsity football at Half Moon Bay High School. He graduated in 1980. He played at Foothill Junior College 1983-1985. Coach Von Almen has also had a prolific 32 year coaching career. He was head J.V. coach at Half Moon Bay, Aragon, Burlingame and Woodside high schools. He was head varsity coach at Lowell, Lincoln, Half Moon Bay and Hillsdale.
The 2016 football season will mark Mike’s fourth stint at HMB as a football coach. Dating back to 1990, Coach Krieger has been coaching quarterbacks, defensive backs, has been the offensive coordinator and head coach of the JV on Cougar Hill. Coaching football is his passion and enjoys the camaraderie with his fellow coaches and imparting his football knowledge to the young men he works with on the field. Coach Krieger has, also, coached varsity baseball at HMB for the last seven seasons.
As a long time Coastside resident(since 1973), Mike grew up in HMB and was a three sport athlete at HMBHS; graduating in 1985. After graduating from Cal, Coach Krieger has continued to reside on the coast with his wife, Barbara, and daughters, Morgan and Brooke.
Head Athletic Trainer
Head Athletic Trainer Jessica Markbreiter completed her Master's in Athletic Training from A.T. Still University (Mesa, AZ) in the spring of 2015 prior to joining the athletic staff at Half Moon Bay High School mid-fall in 2015. While in Arizona she worked as a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer at Phoenix College working closely with Men's/Women's soccer and baseball. Prior to graduate school she attended Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX) where she earned her Bachelor's in Athletic Training. Over her past six years of education she has gained clinical experience in Division 1, Junior College, and High School setting(s). Jessica is excited to be joining the athletic staff at Half Moon Bay High School for her second year.
ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER / EMT
Geoff is a volunteer Firefighter & EMT for the Central County Fire Department and is continuing his emergency education to obtain his paramedic license. He is the baseball hitting and infield coach at Skyline College and was a Varsity and J.V. assistant baseball coach at HMBHS from 2012 to 2014. In his free time he enjoys teaching kids and outdoor activities and exercise.
