Half Moon Bay High Community Cougar
In 2008, we are started a new Cougar Football tradition called the “Community Cougar”. Each game week our players will get together and choose a person (teacher, administrator, parent or anyone in the community) that has helped support them in some way; be it academically, athletically, emotionally, etc.
That week, the Community Cougar is invited to any practice/meeting/ “behind the scenes look” they would like to attend. They would be guest of honor at our team dinner Thursday night and then invited down to our sideline during the game. We'll also give them a long sleeve black shirt with "Community Cougar" on the back to wear at the games.
This is our way to recognize a few of the many people that support and encourage our kids.
2009 Recipients
PreSeason Week: Conor Meyers - Conor supports the team in many ways; from the huge job of organizing the game program, to BBQing at team dinners. His three boys are all Cougars, Zack (graduated 2008, #73), Carrick (TE and DE #80 on the Varsity, and Patrick (QB #10 on the Frosh/Soph).
Week #1: Lisa Garcia - Lisa is our team’s web master and has done countless hours of work to make our football website up to date and functional. She’s also worked on our game program and designed our “Cougar Classic” athletic golf fundraiser flyer. Her two sons play football for the Cougars, Aidan, #32 on the Frosh/Soph, and Julian, #39 on the Varsity.
Week #2: Gary Mason - Gary is a science teacher at the high school. Although he’s only been at the high school a few years, he’s had a big impact on our players and has earned their admiration and respect.
Week #3: Tony Magagnini-Tony is a physical education teacher and the former Baseball coach at
HMBHS. He also coached the Frosh/Soph Football team for several years. His son Dominic also played for the Cougars in 2000.
Week #4: Bridget Meyers-Bridget does our team photos and posts them on Shutterfly. She also helps out with our weekly team dinners. Her step sons, Carrick and Patrick, play football for the Cougars.
Week #5: "The Seaton Brothers"- Mike, Dave and Steve - The Seaton family has a long and proud history of coastside football. They are well-respected and loved by players, coaches and fans. The brothers also run our chain gangs at all home games. Seatons truly embody what we mean by "Cougar Pride"
Week #6: Cameron Palmer - Cameron is an HMB alumni, class of 1982. For years, Cameron has supported Cougar Football, Coastside Football, and many other high school programs. He's graciously donated his restaurant for our team dinners, year after year. Thank you Cameron!!
Week #7: Ron and Bev France - Ron has been our sideline camera man and Bev has been our team mom for many years now. Their first son, Derek, was a junior on the CCS Championship team of '05, and Nik is a senior on this years team. I can't even begin to list the thousands of ways they have supported this program and HMBHS Athletics. They have given unselfishly for many years and are truly wonderful people. I believe Ron has only missed one game in I don't know how many years, and Bev has gone above and beyond what a "team mom" is a thousands times over. From all the coaches, players, parents and high school staff, THANK YOU!
Week #8: Terri Chatfield - Terri has had three boys come though the Cougar Football program (Shawn, Kevin and Jeff, along with the support of their brother Brian). She’s on the Cougar Booster Board and runs our snack shack at all football games as well as many other HMBHS athletic events. THANK YOU!
Week #9: Scott Biezad - Scott is the VP here at HMBHS. He’s always been a big football fan and Cougar supporter. A few times a week he takes time out to come work with our kickers. He is well liked and respected by all our boys.
