Homecoming Woes

It was a disappointing Homecoming game on Friday night at John Francis Field as the Varsity football team lost to South San Francisco by the score of 30-27. The Cougars started out slow and committed two first half turnovers to get down 14-0. Just before the half Shane Acton found Tight End James Cartwright open in the end zone to cut the score to 14-7. In the third quarter the Cougars ran a total of 6 plays while the Warriors added  another touchdown to build a 20-7 lead. In the fourth quarter the Warriors again scored to go up 27-7. The Cougars answered back with a Toby Leonardos touchdown run to make the score 27-13. With 3:30 left in the game the Warriors added a field goal to make the score 30-13. The Cougars went into their hurry up offense and scored a touchdown when Acton hit Pablo Gutierrez with a touchdown pass to make it a 30-20 game. The Cougars recovered an onside kick and moved down the field to score again on an Acton to Brandon Inglis touchdown pass and the score was 30-27. The Cougars next onside attempt was recovered by S.S.F. and the Warriors ran out the clock to hang on to the victory. The league loss dropped the Cougars to 4-2 and 1-1 on the season.

The JV team evened its league record at 1-1 with a 20-13 win over S.S.F. The young Cougars record improved to 4-2 and 1-1.

Both teams will travel to Aragon High School next week for an important battle to stay alive in the PAL Ocean division. The JV game is on Thursday at 3:00 and the Varsity game kicks off at 3:00 on Friday afternoon. The Cougars will need to refocus this week in practice in order to be prepared for a tough Aragon Dons team.

This week's Community Cougar: Terra Family

The Half Moon Bay Football players and coaches congratulate the entire Terra family for being voted unanimously as this week's Community Cougar. Michelle runs the snack bar and is a huge part of the traditional Thursday team dinners. Marisa bakes for our players for Thursday dinners and Gerry is a regular at practice, always giving our players moral support.  The whole family supports Cougar football in every way possible.  Junior Justin Terra is a member of the Varsity team playing on both sides of the line as a center and a defensive tackle. Join us in congratulating the Terra family and thanking them for all they do for our football players and coaches.
