Another Big Night for Cougar Football

It was another big night for both Half Moon Bay football teams on Friday night as both teams traveled to Gilroy and came home with big victories. The Varsity team improved to 2-1 with their second consecutive win defeating the Gilroy High Mustangs by the score of 44-6. The Cougars jumped out on top early scoring on the second play of the game when Shane Acton spotted Matt Spigelman uncovered for a 68 yard touchdown. Spigelman would add 2 more first half touchdowns. Toby Leonardos scored on the Cougars second possession and the Cougars had a 30-6 halftime lead. In the second half the Cougars overcame a slow start in the 3rd quarter and scored two more touchdowns by Leonardos and Acton to complete the scoring. The defense applied constant pressure to the Mustangs offense and kept their passing attack in check all night long.

The Junior Varsity football team also improved to 2-1 with a big 49-7 win over Gilroy. The JV Cougars set the tone early and dominated the Mustangs on both sides of the ball.

Both teams return home next Friday night when they take on the high powered offense of the Menlo Knights. Fridays games will honor our local schools. The JV game begins at 4:00. Prior to the Varsity game, which begins at 7:00, players and coaches from the football and baseball teams will honor the passing of Coach Rocky Perry. Their will be a ceremony of remembrance and a moment of silence. The coaches and players hope you will attend the game and take part in the ceremony at 6:30.

In honor of our friend and fellow coach, the P.O.G. award will now be known as the Rocky Perry Player Of The Game Award.
