Cougars First Non League Game

To All Half Moon Bay Football Friends and Family,

The Cougars kicked off their 2014 football season on Friday night with a non league game at Monterey High School. The Cougars played well on offense scoring 3 touchdowns. Shane Acton threw two touchdown passes, the first to James Cartwright and the second to Pablo Gutierrez. The third touchdown came on the ground when Anthony DeMartini scored on a 5 yard run to complete a 17 play drive. It was the poor special teams play by the Cougars that put the team in a difficult situation. The Cougars lost to Monterey by the score of 48-23.

The JV team also opened their season on Friday in Monterey and played well against the Toreadors, coming up short in a 36-34 loss. The JV Cougars mounted a strong second half comeback and were led by Sam Terraszas who returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. Jack Cartwright also scored twice for the JV team and Chase Hoffman added another score for HMB.

Both teams fell to 0-1 and will look to even their record on Friday night when they host Santa Clara High School in their first home game of the season. The game is also the annual Black & Orange Bowl. The JV game begins at 4:00 and the Varsity game kicks off at 7:00. Come out to John Francis Field on Friday to cheer your Cougars on to victory.
