Homecoming Varsity Victory

It was an exciting Homecoming game at John Francis Field on Friday night as the varsity football team remained unbeaten with a come from behind 22-19 win over the Menlo School Knights. After a Gavin Tomberlin 50 yard touchdown run and a Matt Spigelman touchdown, the Cougars led at halftime 15-6. In the second half the Knights took advantage of some HMB turnovers and late in the 4th quarter the Cougars found themselves down by the score of 19-15. With time running out in the game, the Cougars mounted their game winning drive which culminated with Spigelman's second touchdown of the game with 30 seconds left. The Cougars overcame 5 turnovers to win the game and improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The JV football team also played Menlo School in a hard fought battle on Friday afternoon. The young Cougars held a 7-6 lead after three quarters with their lone score coming on a Jakob Meighen to Danny Mack touchdown pass. The Cougars committed three turnovers and the Knights managed to score two late touchdowns for a 19-7 victory. The JV teams record fell to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in league.

Both teams will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Woodside High School to take on the Wildcats. The JV game will begin at 4:00 and the varsity game will kickoff at 7:00.

The entire Cougars football program would like to congratulate the Baird family for having been voted this week's Community Cougar. The Bairds are heavily involved in the success of HMB Cougars football. Sean and Arron are players on the varsity and JV teams respectively. Julie is the backbone of the football program doing the behind the scenes work including organizing team dinners and coordinating all team communications. Along with those responsibilities, Julie and Dave are a part of all other volunteer work that goes on for Cougar Football.
