Win Over Carmel HS

It was an orange and black football Friday at John Francis Field as the HMB Cougars football team earned the opportunity to play for the CCS Division 5 Championship with a 28-14 win over Carmel High School. Once again the Cougars used a strong ground game led by Matt Spigelman and a dominating defense to gain the round 2 playoff victory. The Cougars took the opening kickoff and moved down the field with Chase Hofmann finishing the drive with a touchdown run to give HMB a 6-0 lead. Carmel came right back and scored to take a brief 7-6 lead. The Cougars regained the lead when Spigelman capped off the drive with the go ahead touchdown. After the Cougars got the ball back Spigelman scored another touchdown on a 66 yard run. Carmel scored just before halftime and the Cougars held a 20-14 halftime lead. After a scoreless 3rd quarter the Cougars took a two score lead on Spigelman's third touchdown of the game and after the 2 point conversion HMB held a 28-14 lead. The defense contained the Carmel offense and took the ball back before running out the clock and earning a trip to the championship game against #1 seed Pacific Grove.  The Cougars will play Pacific Grove at Independence High School on Saturday @ 7:00 pm.

Several members of that team can be seen on the sidelines of all HMB Cougars football games and a few of them have returned to HMB to coach football over the years including current Offensive Coordinator Willie Hillyard.
