Explosive Offense Yields Big Win Over TKA

It was a fun and offensively explosive football Friday at John Francis Field as both teams improved their records to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in league play, with victories over The Kings Academy Knights. The varsity team put on an offensive show on the ground on their way to a 50-40 shoot out win. The Cougars used a ball control offense that amassed nearly 500 yards with 465 coming on the ground. Matt Spigelman led the way with 200 yards and 4 touchdowns. Chase Hofmann added 190 yards and scored 2 touchdowns and Gavin Tomberlin added a touchdown pass to Pablo Gutierrez, to complete the scoring. TKA used a quick strike aerial attack for their offense but the Cougars' defense made key stops when they needed them to earn the victory.

The JV team also defeated the TKA Knights in the early game by the score of 26-14. The young Cougars were tied at halftime with the Knights at 14-14 but in the second half used a strong defense to keep TKA out of the endzone. The defense was keyed by Hayden Von Almen's fumble recovery, which he returned 60 yards to the 1 yard line, where Jacob Quosig scored his second touchdown of the game to give the JV team a two score lead late in the game. Quosig also scored on a punt return for a touchdown to break the tie. The return was his 6th of the season. The young Cougars also scored on touchdowns in the first half by Dom Padua and a touchdown pass from Jacob Quosig to Danny Mack.

Both teams will play their final regular season game next week on the road against rival Terra Nova in the traditional Skull Game. All of the players and coaches hope to see a packed house in the visitors stands to cheer your Cougars on to victory. Last year's game was a classic and ended in a Cougar's victory. The players and coaches will be working hard this week to make it two wins in a row and retain the Skull Trophy for another year. The JV game will begin at 4:00 and the varsity game will kickoff at 7:00.
