Cougars Defeated By Knights

It was an exciting but unfortunately disappointing Friday evening at The King's Academy as our varsity football team suffered its first defeat of the 2016 season. The Cougars battled the Knights all night long but were unable to overcome 3 turnovers as TKA defeated HMB by the score of 49-35. Dom Padua got the Cougars on the scoreboard early with a touchdown run but TKA answered right back with a TD to tie the game at 7-7. The two teams answered each other touchdown for touchdown with Johnny Carrillo and Jake Quosig scoring touchdowns for HMB and the score was 21-21. TKA scored two TDs before halftime to take a 35-21 lead. In the 3rd quarter Quosig scored again and added a 2pt. conversion to cut the lead to 35-29. In the 4th quarter Padua scored again but a blocked extra point kept the game tied at 35-35. TKA added two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter and HMB could not answer. The loss left HMB's record at 7-1, 3-1 going into next week's Homecoming game against South San Francisco. A win next week will assure the Cougars of at least a share of the Ocean Division title.

The JV team overcame 3 turnovers and a sloppy 3 quarters of offensive football to win by the score of 7-6. The defense played solid all day giving up one big play which resulted in a TKA touchdown before the half. The young Cougars stuffed the Knights in the second half and took the lead on Blake Schmieder's 4th quarter touchdown. The defense finished the game with an interception by Oz Munroy which was HMB's third take away of the game. The win improved HMB's JV record to 3-4-1, 2-2.

Next week the Cougars face the Warriors of South San Francisco High in their final league game of the season. Next week is also Homecoming which will culminate a week of activities. The JV game begins at 4:00 and the varsity game kicksoff at 7:00. Both teams hope to see a jam packed John Francis Field cheering on our Cougars!
