The HMBHS football teams began their 2016 seasons on Friday with road games against the Saratoga High Falcons. The varsity team began the defense of their 2015 championship season with a thrilling come from behind 27-26 victory over the Falcons. The Cougars found themselves down early at 6-0 when Junior Chase Hofmann scored the first of his three touchdowns to give HMB a 7-6 lead. The Falcons came back with two scores before halftime and took a 20-7 lead.
In the 3rd quarter the Cougars scored twice, once on Hofmann's second TD and then on a halfback pass from Junior Jake Quosig to fellow Junior Hayden Von Almen. After a missed extra point the game was tied at 20-20. In the 4th quarter Hofmann scored again and HMB had a 27-20 lead. The Falcons came right back and with 1:40 left in the game scored a touchdown. Saratoga decided to go for the win and attempted a 2 point conversion for the lead. The attempt failed and HMB had a 27-26 lead. After the Cougars recovered an onside kick, HMB ran out the clock and began the season 1-0.
