Sequoia took their first lead at 26-21 on their opening drive of the second half. HMB regained the lead at 28-26 on Quosig's second TD of the game. In the 4th quarter Quosig scored again to give HMB a 35-26 lead. The Cherokees came right back to cut the lead to 35-33. After some questionable calls on the HMB defense, Sequoia scored again with 30 seconds left in the game to take a 40-35 lead. The Cougars' chances seemed slim, but on this Pumpkin Festival weekend the spirit of the great pumpkin was in the air. Sequoia kicked off and the ball went out of bounds at mid-field. After a pass to Hayden Von Almen moved the ball to the Sequoia 35 yard line, HMB pulled out the hook and ladder play with Von Almen catching the ball and lateraling to Quosig who ran it down to the 10 yard line with 11 seconds left, Tomberlin then hit Quosig with a TD pass to give HMB the lead with 5 seconds left. The win gave HMB sole possesion of first place in the PAL Ocean division and improved their record to 7-0, 3-0.

A big thanks goes out to John Nazar for being our Week 1 Community Cougar.

Cougar Pride.

The Half Moon Bay Cougars season came to an end on Saturday night with a first round CCS playoff loss to the Carmel Padres. The Cougars completed a successful winning season with a 7-4 record. The 2014 Cougars had a lot of highlights this season including a 4-1 non league record and a 3-2 PAL Ocean league record which gave them a tie for second in the league. The Cougars biggest win of the season came in their last regular season game against the rival Terra Nova Tigers. The game was one of the best high school football games that has taken place at John Francis Field in several years and returned the "Skull" to Half Moon Bay. The win renewed the rivalry that had become one sided in recent years.

The 2014 Cougars brought the excitement, heart and Cougar pride back to our football program. The players and coaches should all be proud of their accomplishments this season and can hold their head up high knowing that the future of Cougars football looks bright and the seeds for success have been planted by the hard work and commitment of this season's team.

The players and coaches would like to thank all the parents for their support and hard work. Your efforts in all the behind the scenes work from summer to awards night are greatly appreciated and make it possible for the coaches to put their focus on our student athletes and the play on the field. The coaches and returning players look forward to next season and taking another step towards our ultimate goal.
