Cougars Open with Dominant 42–0 Victory Over Overfelt
The Half Moon Bay Cougars started the season in impressive fashion, earning a 42–0 shutout victory over Overfelt behind a balanced offense and a dominant defensive performance.
The Cougars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Brandon Melo connected with Max Plancarte for a 21-yard touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion pass to Soren Brown. From there, the running game took over. Luke Pimentel broke loose for touchdown runs of 42 and 68 yards in the first quarter, helping HMB jump out to a commanding 22–0 lead.
Pimentel continued his outstanding day with a third touchdown in the second quarter, finishing with an impressive 111 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just three carries. Joedoln Flores added a three-yard touchdown run before halftime, and Alessandro Hughes capped the scoring with a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Brandon Melo completed 5 of 7 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown, while Plancarte led the receiving corps with three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars were especially effective on the ground, piling up 265 rushing yards as part of 369 total yards of offense.
The HMB defense was equally impressive, holding Overfelt to just 49 total yards and two first downs while keeping the Royals off the scoreboard for all four quarters. The Cougars also held Overfelt to 0-for-6 on third downs.
It was an impressive all-around performance for the Cougars and a great way to kick off the season!

Community Cougar- Derek France
Derek was a standout on the 2005 CCS Championship team, the first Half Moon Bay High School football team to win a playoff game and section championship. During that time, his father Ron filmed games for the Cougars and his mom Bev was our team mom and was in charge of team meals. Derek has carried on the family tradition by videoing all the Cougars games. Derek has volunteered for this job for years. Derek continues to live on the coast with his wife, Eveyln, and his two little girls. We can’t thank Derek enough for his years of loyalty and commitment to our program.
