Cougars Stay Undefeated with 42–22 Win Over Carlmont!

The Cougars kept their winning streak rolling Friday night, picking up an impressive 42–22 road victory over Carlmont! HMB scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters and finished the night with an impressive 492 yards of total offense.

The Cougar running game once again led the way, racking up 384 yards on the ground. Brandon Melo had another huge night, rushing for 150 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by an electrifying 84-yard touchdown run. Luke Pimentel added 86 rushing yards, Joedoln Flores contributed 82, and Max Plancarte and Auggie Lujan each found the end zone.

The Cougars also delivered some big plays through the air. Melo completed 3 of 5 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Anthony Frediani for a 39-yard score and Pimentel for a 57-yard touchdown. HMB finished with 23 first downs, converted an outstanding 6 of 7 third downs, and played turnover-free football.

On defense, the Cougars came up with a key turnover when Anthony Frediani made a big interception, helping stop a Carlmont drive and swing the momentum back in HMB’s favor. The defense held Carlmont to 22 points and came up with important stops throughout the night.

With the victory, the Cougars improved to 3–0 and have scored exactly 42 points in all three games, outscoring their opponents 126–22 to start the season!

Mrs. Baker has her hands all over many things taking place on campus.  Not only is she a fantastic math teacher and spends her lunches with students helping them with math, she also coordinates tutoring with Jay and Leo for students to get support with math curriculum.  On top of that, she is our new Broadcasting teacher who spends countless hours making our school announcements.  As if this isn’t enough, in her “free” time, she has volunteered to take on the social media role for Cougar Boosters.  She also helps with many behind the scenes projects for football. Mrs. Baker is an HMBHS alumnus who lives on the coast with her husband, Tommy (JV Football Coach and Wrestling Coach), her son, JT (Offensive lineman for the Varsity team) and her daughter, Jenna (Cunha student athlete). 

JV Football write up:

The JV Football Team beat Carlmont 32-0. A tough defense, balanced running attack and timely pass plays helped the Cougars remain undefeated this year. Quarterback Tristan Reilly completed 9 passes for 75 yards and a Touchdown. Eli Blake caught a 25 yard TD pass and ran for 20 yards. Manny Hernandez led all rushers with 64 yards and a TD. Camden Crowell and Wyatt Gunning each ran for 59 yards and each scored a Touchdown. 

 

On defense, The Cougar Linebackers tackled everyone. Camden led all with 16 tackles, had a Sack and forced a fumble. Brody Barton had 7 Tackles and Blocked a Punt. Jorge Vasquez had 4-Tackles and recovered a fumble. Defensive End Chase Barger had 6-Tackles and a Sack.
