41-40 Game Thriller

It was an exciting and amazing Friday night at Sequoia High School. The varsity football team remained perfect on the 2016 season with a thrilling 41-40 win. HMB took an early 7-0 lead on Gavin Tomberlin's touchdown pass to Jake Quosig. Sequoia tied the game at 7-7 before Chase Hofmann scored to give the Cougars a 14-7 lead. Hofmann scored again in the 2nd quarter but Sequoia answered with 2 scores and HMB held a slim 21-19 lead going into the 3rd quarter. Sequoia took their first lead at 26-21 on their opening drive of the second half. HMB regained the lead at 28-26 on Quosig's second TD of the game. In the 4th quarter Quosig scored again to give HMB a 35-26 lead. The Cherokees came right back to cut the lead to 35-33. After some questionable calls on the HMB defense, Sequoia scored again with 30 seconds left in the game to take a 40-35 lead. The Cougars' chances seemed slim, but on this Pumpkin Festival weekend the spirit of the great pumpkin was in the air. Sequoia kicked off and the ball went out of bounds at mid-field. After a pass to Hayden Von Almen moved the ball to the Sequoia 35 yard line, HMB pulled out the hook and ladder play with Von Almen catching the ball and lateraling to Quosig who ran it down to the 10 yard line with 11 seconds left, Tomberlin then hit Quosig with a TD pass to give HMB the lead with 5 seconds left. The win gave HMB sole possesion of first place in the PAL Ocean division and improved their record to 7-0, 3-0.
