Cougars defeated the gators and head to finals

The varsity football team continued on their path to a CCS championship with a round #2 victory over Sacred Heart Prep. On Friday night, in front ofa full and excited crowd at John Francis Field, the Cougars defeated the Gators by the score of 16-13. HMB took the opening kickoff and methodically moved down the field with Chase Hofmann completing the scoring drive with a touchdown run to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead. SHP came right back scoring a touchdown but a botched extra point allowed HMB to maintain the lead at 7-6 after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter HMB sacked the Gators QB in the endzone for a safety and a 9-6 lead. Later in the 2nd quarter Gavin Tomberlin connected with Hayden Von Almen for a touchdown pass and a 16-6 lead at halftime. Both teams' defenses stiffened in the second half with the Gators scoring the lone touchdown in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to 16-13. SHP chose not to attempt an onside kick and HMB fielded the ball and were able to run out most of the clock. The Gators attempted one last desperation pass but it was not enough and HMB secured its second trip to the CCS championship game in two years and third in school history.
