Cougars Defeat Leland 35-9

The Cougars traveled to Leland High in San Jose for the first time to open the 2022 season with a convincing 35 – 9 win at Pat Tillman Field. Liam Harrington led the offense and scored a rushing touchdown in his first varsity start at quarterback leading the Orange and Black option attack. PJ Modena had a break-out game, earning offensive player of the week by running over and through the Chargers all night. Fellow seniors Ryan Harrington and Owen Miller also scored in the convincing win over the Chargers. Miller also earned Scout Team player of the week, along with Ivan Aguilar for their efforts during the week of practice. The defense did its part, only giving up a field goal until late in the fourth quarter. Senior defensive end Gael Segura had two sacks and was named Defensive player of the week. Julian “JJ” Jimenez had a great night with an interception in one on one coverage. He converted all five extra points and a perfectly executed on-side kick-off which the Cougars recovered immediately after their first touchdown and was named Special Teams player of the week. The team selected Ms. Kling as Community Cougar for this coming week against San Mateo. Come out to see the Cougars take on the Bearcats Friday at 7:00 for the home opener.
