Cougars Blank San Mateo 36-0

The Cougars won big in the home opener, mauling the Bearcats 36-0 on Friday night. Quarterback Liam Harrington led the option offense to 198 yards on the ground and added 173 more in the air to earn Offensive player of the week. Liam started the scoring by hitting brother Ryan in stride for a long touchdown pass and again threw to Ryan on the successful two point conversion. On the kick off, Special Teams player of the week, Gael Segura drilled a perfect on-sides kick and recovered the ball himself, bringing the offense back on the field. On first down, perfect pass protection from the offensive line freed up Owen Miller to connect with Kai Zanette on a trick play for another long TD throw. Miller also helped his teammates with nice runs from the Jumbo package. Rushing touchdowns were scored by Peter Valdez (who also earned Scout team player of the week), PJ Modena and Harrison Tobias. Meanwhile, the defense hammered the visitors led by Valdez, Aidan Vasquez, Segura and leading tackler Modena who was named Defensive player of the week. Dio Lucido had an interception and the team recovered three forced fumbles on the way to the shutout victory. Come out to see the Cougars take on the 2-0 Carlmont Scots Friday night at 7:00 at John Francis Field.
