The Cougars started the 2023 football season with a scrimmage against Sacred Heart Prep and Bellarmine College Prep at home on Friday night . The Cougars held their own against two good teams from strong leagues, scoring against both and giving up one score to each. On his first varsity start at QB, Dusty Dimas led the orange and black on a 60 yard scoring drive featuring a 22 yard pass to Ronin McCauley and capped by a Harrison Tobias plunge from the 2 yard line. Other offensive highlights included a 25 yard completion to Connor Heath, and a 26 yard TD run by Tobias. Colton Henry and Jordi Sanchez led the offensive line. On defense, Hermes McClellan played solid in his first start at linebacker. Fellow 'backer Lane Miller, Sanchez at defensive end and Heath at strong safety made good contributions. McCauley at free safety had an interception off a pass deflected by linebacker Jack Pederson. Kenji Holcomb had a nice debut at slotback and corner. Come out to cheer on the Cougars for game one on the schedule as they host the Leland Chargers this Friday at 7 PM!
